I started brewing my own beer a couple of years ago after a friend and former colleague moved to the US told me aboout his own attempts. At that time, he was complaining that the beer he could buy in the US was either really bad or really expensive, so he started making his own. Even though I was living in Belgium at that time, so the country with the best beer worldwide, except for wheat beer (and I am saying this as a german). Anyway, for some reason I do not really remember I also wanted to try brewing and bought some basic equipment to make about 20L batches. Now I make one batch every 4-6 weeks, a bit less during Corona times, because mostly I had to drink it by myself.
